What GoalTutor™ is

GoalTutor™ is a CDROM- and web-based tutorial and job aid to help you create performance measures and goals for any kind of work.

Who should use GoalTutor™

GoalTutor™ is designed to be used by:

  • Managers or supervisors who need to set goals for employees who report to them
  • Employees who need to set goals for themselves
  • Team leaders and team members who need to set goals for the team and each team member
  • Human Resource personnel who need to help others set goals
  • Compensation staff searching for metrics on which to base variable compensation
  • Anyone interested in how to measure employee performance

GoalTutor™ assumes that the user is an employee who needs to develop performance measures and goals for his/her position.


What GoalTutor™ does

GoalTutor™ helps you set goals for a given position. It walks you through a seven-step process for goal setting and provides assistance at each step in the form of:

  • How-to guidance
  • Self-evaluation feedback
  • Examples of performance measures you can borrow and modify to fit your situation

Components of GoalTutor™

GoalTutor™ includes:

  • How-to workbook in PDF format (How to Measure Employee Performance)
  • Worksheets in PDF and Microsoft Word formats
  • Mini-lectures on each topic with video, narration and PowerPoint slides
  • A database of 8000+ measurement ideas (QuickMeasures)

How long will it take to complete?

GoalTutor™ was derived from a self-paced workshop that was schedule for one work day. Individuals completed the training in anywhere from 4-8 hours depending on how difficult it was to create measures for their work.

The 10 video mini-lectures last a total of 62 minutes, ranging from 3 minutes to 16 minutes each. Most lectures have an activity associated with the topic which will take from 20 minutes to 90 minutes to complete.


How to Use GoalTutor

After reviewing this introduction, you should:

  1. Print the Workbook, How to Measure Employee Performance.

  2. View each mini-lecture listed at the Chapters button above, and do the exercises suggested by the narrator to produce a set of results, measures and goals for your position.

  3. Review these draft goals with your supervisor/manager to finalize them.
