I'm
viewing a QuickMeasures example in Microsoft Word, and I want to get
back to the search results page to look at another example. How do I
do that? (top)
I

should I do? (top)
When

I
get the message "A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to debug?"
(top)
Your
copy of Internet Explorer is configured to try to solve errors in
the websites you visit. You can reconfigure IE to stop this: Open
Internet Explorer. Click on Tools, then Internet Options. Click on
Advanced tab. Look for the "Disable scrip debugging" like,
and click on the box next to it to put a check marke in the box. Now
look for the "Display a notification about every script error"
line, and click on the box to remove the check mark. An article
on Microsoft's website has other suggestions.
Where
did these measures come from?
(top)
The
results and measures found in QuickMeasures came from Zigon
Performance Group's consulting engagements over the last 20+ years.
They were created by working directly with individuals who either
did the work or managed the work involved. The process used to create
the measures is defined in ZPG's books
and articles.
For the most part, the clients were large, North American organizations
(>10,000 employees and $1 billion in sales) in the for-profit sector
of the economy. The examples were edited for clarity and to remove
all information which would identify the company. ZPG did not remove
any industry-specific jargon and acronyms to retain the flavor of
the industry. As such they have all the strengths and weaknesses of
"real-life" examples.
Why
don't all the examples have a "How to Track" column?
(top)
The
idea of documenting ideas for how to track these measures is a recent
one. The examples created up until 2-3 years ago didn't include this
feature. All examples created after 1997 include a "How to Track"
column.
Why
don't all the examples have a customer diagram?
(top)
Using
a customer diagram is only one of five possible techniques which can
be used to create the initial list of results for a position. For
more information on the five options see the article on
How to Measure the Hard Stuff. In some cases, a customer diagram
was used, but the diagram was lost. In most cases, ZPG has found that
the diagram is so specific to the organization and the particular
position targeted, that it cannot be used anywhere else as a source
of ideas. However, the list of results which came from the diagram
are applicable across positions, functions and industries.
Why
do some of the goals look like tasks instead instead of numeric measures?
(top)
GoalTutor
is a result-based measurement tool. But in some service jobs, the
result is the correctly done task or behavior. In those cases, the
goal might include a verifiable description of what well-done tasks
look like.
Where
did the weights come from?
(top)
The
weights in these examples came from the manager and employee who helped
to draft the example. They reflected their view of the relative importance
of each result. You should modify them to fit your situation.
Why
aren't there more manufacturing, sales, etc. positions listed?
(top)
Because
all of these examples grew out of ZPG's consulting engagements, they
are limited to the types of clients who requested measurement assistance.
Historically manufacturing and sales are areas which have well-developed
measurement systems and thus seldom request assistance. Service work
and creative work such as Research and Development are harder to measure
and thus are more likely to request ZPG's assistance.
How
can I get additional job- or industry-specific examples?
(top)
The
quickest and least costly way is to create your own using Goaltutor™.
ZPG can help you do this by conducting onsite workshops
where dozens of company-specific examples can be created using our
job aids and facillitation services. ZPG can then edit your examples
and add them to your company's version of GoalTutor™. Email
Jack Zigon or call at 610-891-9599
for a cost quote.
Why
would I want to access the Word version of an example?
(top)
To
view or print the entire example, or to copy a single cell of an
example, your web browser is adequate. If you want to copy and edit
a large portion of the example, the Word version of each document
will be a better choice. By clicking on the blue
(Word version) link at the top of each example, you
will either open the Word version in your browser window, or automatically
launch Microsoft Word and open the document in Word. From there
you can edit the document, or cut and paste large portions of it.
How
do I contact ZPG for additional information? (top)
If
you require additional assistance, please email
ZPG for additional information.
